Jon, Funny you should ask about this Corel Draw problem of making a white backround into a light gray. I just spent several hours with the same problem and I now know the solution (thanks to the Very Smart Guy in Tennesse: JKJ). When you save an image as a 256 grayscale image in Corel, the damn program tries to be helpful by automatically adjusting the gamma (or something similar). This means that your white backround has now been averaged out to a shade of gray! I'm not sure if this is a Corel bug or their idea of a "feature." The solution is simple: save the image as a COLOR tiff (or targa, or whatever) with 256 colors. Even if the image is b&w or grayscale, when it is saved as a color image, the white backround will remain white. Alec Jason
