I have two workstations on a Lantastic network with a dedicated server. One of the workstations is a 486-50 (EISA) with 64Mb and the other is a 486-66 (VLB) with 32Mb. On projects that involve no paging, my 486-50 still outperforms my 486-66 by as much as 30%! I just got the Topas Crystal 3D "Competitive Upgrade" ($795) and read an interesting tip in the performance manual… It states that machines with over 16Mb of RAM need at least 256Kb of cache RAM, otherwise performance will be degraded. Other people have told me that "true 50 Mhz" is better because it has a faster bus to memory. A RAM cache upgrade is only $9.00, so I will try that and find out in about two weeks. In the meantime, does anyone have any more information about this issue? Why isn't it documented in the 3DS installation manual?
