The Phillips driver only lets the Phillips software talk to the drive and vice-versa. It's Phillips' own software that does the recording, formatting, etc. The 604X, while networkable, isn't one I'd like on a big network since it can only load and play one of the six disks at a time. Two users can't use two different disks, for example, but both could access the same loaded disk (and possibly get into an electronic tug of war changing them!).
