This is the way Microsoft designed DOS and it's built in. I really wouldn't
fool with ASSIGN and such for other than temporary jobs, as they can wind up
causing serious problems.
It would be very nice to be able to reassign drive letters but since MS
just discovered how to do a Diskcopy without 4 swaps and still won't XCOPY
using EMS, don't hold your breath. For some jiggering, here's the general
priority: A, B: Floppy drives. C: bootable hard disk. D on: loaded in the order
in which their DRIVERS are loaded in CONFIG.SYS. If BIOS controls 2 drives,
then second drive will be D but subsequent drives will again be assigned in
DRIVER ORDER. You can also play some games by partitioning C: or D: which will
create more drive letters. Best anybody can do.
