I do videos only as a hobby. I want to edit Hi-8 video and get near-Hi-8 output. After a few weeks of reading messages in this forum, I have concluded that it would take too much money ($20,000 for FAST Video Machine or equiv. plus $10,000 for a new computer with big fast drives) to do this with non-linear editing. I have a fantasy… for under $1000 (O.K. — $1500) can I get system which will control "non-professional" equipment and allow me to edit video clips, add special transition effects (dissolves, wipes), add title overlays and also edit the sound? In other words, I want to do computer controlled linear editing, and utilize my computer (66/486, 1 Gig IDE drive) for special effects. Any advice is welcome.
