Autodesk Reports Revenues and Earnings
Company Achieves Record Unit Shipments of AutoCAD
SAUSALITO, Calif. — November 18, 1993 — Autodesk, Inc. today
reported net revenues for the quarter ended October 31, 1993 grew to
$98.2 million, compared to $93.8 million for the same quarter in the
prior fiscal year. Net income for the third quarter was $14.9
million or $.60 per share, compared to $12.8 million or $.50 per
share in the prior fiscal year. A stronger dollar relative to
international currencies affected third quarter revenues, resulting in
a negative impact of nearly $5 million.
"While overall revenues increased by 5 percent, we are encouraged
by record shipments of 53,000 new AutoCAD units. We are also pleased
with revenues from our Emerging Businesses Group, which grew 35
percent over the same quarter last year," said Carol Bartz, CEO of
Autodesk, adding, "This revenue growth was due in part to two new
multimedia products, AutoVision and 3D Studio Release 3, which began
shipping late in the quarter. In the last two weeks of the quarter
alone, nearly 10 percent of the 3D Studio installed base upgraded to
the new release."
In addition to the two new multimedia products, the Company also
shipped AutoCAD Data Extension, or ADE. While ADE was released
toward the end of the third quarter, demand for the product was
strong.
Autodesk's customer base totals more than two million users who
are supported either directly by the Company or through a network of
authorized dealers. Independent application developers supply nearly
4,000 products to customize AutoCAD to a variety of disciplines,
ranging from civil engineering to facilities management.
