James,
What I would do is create two batch files for launching 3DS. One would be
called "3dsfore.bat" and the other "3dsback.bat". In the 3dsfore.bat file, you
would copy a file called 3dsfore.set over 3ds.set. Do the analagous thing in
3dsback.bat. In 3dsfore.set, set MAIN-DISPLAY=VIBRANT. In 3dsback.set, set
MAIN-DISPLAY=VGA. This is what I do except I set MAIN-DISPLAY=VESA in
3dsback.set because the S3 driver can virtualize 256 color modes but not 16
color. I think the reverse will be true for the Viper.
I've heard this sort of thing can be done with the "set=filename" option to
3DS, but I haven't tried it.
I have found that there are problems running Photoshop in seamless mode if I'm
not using the 24bit OS/2 driver. So I run it in a full-screen Win-OS2 session.
I like full screen Win-OS2, because there is substantial time in launching
Win-OS2. If you close your last seamless, window, the Win-OS2 is unloaded and
you have to load it all over again if you run another windows program. It's
easier for me to remember not to close Win-OS2 than to remember to keep at
least one Windows seamless windows app open at all times when I am using
Windows apps.
