Fortunately there aren't that many films shot for $200 million. Most
are in the 8-16 million dollar range. The bottom line is the bottom
line. Hollywood has been around long enough to know what works for
them, and as long as they can make money doing it a certain way,
that's the way it'll be. If all of a sudden small budget movies
start making bucks, you can bet the larger production companies will
make "smaller" films. Film is a public and popular art. It requires
a great deal of public patronage to make a movie successful, and
nobody make commercial scale movies just for the fun of it, "sucking
for bucks" is an inalienable part of the art.
