I live in the UK so do not have a Toaster and have only recently dipped
into the section.
My company has modest Video requirements and I would really appreciate
some help on up-grading our editing.
We use Hi-8 cameras for acquisition and a Sony 9700 (think that's
right..don't have the machine here…twin deck Hi-8 editor) to edit the
results which are either played direct from Hi-8 or dubbed off onto VHS or
S-VHS.
We experimented with the VideoPilot hardware/software unit for the
Amiga…. if you don't know it, it's originally a French unit using
Panasonic 5-pin, Sony Control-L and IR wands to control a wide range of
consumer and semi-pro cameras and decks. This is OK but the pre and
post-roll setup is tiresome and frame accuracy is still a little hit and
miss: good when it works well but not reliable enough.
What we would like to do is continue with Hi-8 if we can because it
satisfies our quality needs and when linked to the Sony deck gives quick
and accurate cuts editing.
However, good titling, some graphics insertion and the opportunity for A/B
roll has made us think about where we go next.
I would like to stay with the Amiga if at all possible because I know and
like the machine and we already have a good genlock!
I have been waiting for the long-expected Digital Micronics board to
arrive….it was originally advertised in the UK in February….. but the
delay seems endless and the specification of the software doesn't make me
think it will be able to compete with systems on the Mac or PC.
Any ideas where else we should look?
We do not need all-singing, all-dancing digital effects but solid,
accurate editing and titling with the opportunity, ideally, to work from
and to a large-capacity hard-drive via a JPEG board.
Sorry to throw out all these questions but here is another….can I buy
your magazine in the UK? If so, who is the distributor? If not…can you
give me a fax/phone number where I can order current and back copies on my
Amex or M/C?
