Forrest, I understand what you are saying, but I tell you (at least for my uses) the prosummer decks are accurate enough. Besides, may be all smoke but FuturVideo claims +/- 2 frames without time code for Panasonic Decks. I would buy the following configuration; A-B roll, 1 GPI, the ability to display still frames and animations (for titles) and a price of say $650.00. BTW, I produce promotional and educational (Police Canine) video tapes mostly for my business. I am working on a 90 min. event/subject type video tape right now that will be offered for sale.
