Why don't architects use 3D animation?
Simple
MONEY.
We tried soliciting animation to architects for years and the jobs we did get
were big projects with small budgets. The architects usually wanted changes
after the models were done as well. They just seemed to think I waved my mouse
and it all happened instantly. To top it all off, the finished models usually
took forever to render and the architects wanted 2-3 minutes of animation. A
major headache and no money made!!!
The solution
GO WHERE THE MONEY IS!!! THE DEVELOPER!
The developers need to be able to sell or lease their buldings. If you can give
them the tools (IE. An animation) to sell their building quicker ($$$) and
before it is built, it saves them a lot of money. Plus, hopefully by the time
you are brought into the picture, the building designs have already been
finallized with the architect and you won't have to make changes to your models
after the first rendering.
Let me know how you do. We have shied away from architecture animations except
for our CD-ROMs.
