David: I don't know what CADD system you are using but here's a sneaky way to keep your sanity. You get the head of design to endorse your incredibly easy to read and snappy floor plans which include filled linestyles for all of the walls. (I don't know if AutoCAD can do filled linestyles yet – we use GDS) We give every wall a 10% – 20% gray fill and they read beautifully. These filled lines guarantee that I get nice closed loops for creating my 3D models no matter who created the 2D. Anyway, it works out great for me but I won't tell you that there isn't ANY clean-up.
