CrossDos is just for reading/writing Dos-files on your Amiga. Jou can't execute any programs with it. The Bridgeboard is a card with an actual Intel-processor on it for full compatibility. The 386SX25-version is cheap (+/- $250) and works well, but you will need an extra VGA-card and extra-memory to do anything with it. It will not use AmigaDos-devices so you will need a monitor-switch to use your VGA-card, a serial-card + switch if you want to use your modem, a seperate PC-SCSI-controller if you want to use a CD-ROM, etc… . I think an A3000 has 2 or 3 PC-slots to plug those things into, but using these will most likely prevent you from using the Amiga-slots right beside. I have been using my bridgeboard for a year now and I never had any compatibility-probs. But thanks to Jim Drew and Utilities Unlimited, there's now another way to add PC-compatibility to your Amiga. It's called the Emplant. It's a multi-platform emulation-board (Zorro2), that claims it can emulate about anything. The only module available right now is the macintosh-emulation. It emulates a MacII/Quadra900 depending on your processor. The e586DX-module is announced to come out in the next couple of weeks !?! The biggest advantage over the BridgeBoard is that it does use AmigaDos-devices. If you have a SyQuest-removable HD or a CD-ROM connected to your Amiga, you can use them with the Emplant-emulations. If you install extra memory or a faster processor on your Amiga, you instantly upgrade your emplant-modules too. It even works with your 24bit-grapicscard. So no more playing with switches. From reading messages on CIS it seems to work great on compatibility (XQuark/Adobe PhotoShop/Doom) and speed. Mine is due to arrive on thursday. It all depends on what you want to do with your emulation. If you only want to use it occasionely for litte programs, you could also consider a software-PC-emulation (veeeeerrry slow) like PCTask V3.0. I have an external 570 MG Micropolis hard drive with A & B switches for my small scanner. I do not understand the inners of the computer so I have to have someone do this for me.
