That's also why they use it on bees! <g> Acutally, it's more than visually prominent, it's kind of a natural "danger" signal. I ssem to remember a psych film I saw in school about putting babies on a floor where there was an open pit covered with glass. Normally, the babies would just crawl on across, but when it was ringed with black and yellow stripes, they would TEND (just want to make it clear that you can't just put up striped tape around the new sofa and expect baby to leave it alone <g>) to avoid the pit area — ie crawl around.
