SHAREWARE GAME PRODUCED USING 3D STUDIO IS FREE DOWNLOAD FROM EPIC "One Must Fall" by Epic Games is the October download-of-the-month in the GO EPIC forum. Though we're two weeks into November, the game is still available as I post this message. "One Must Fall" is fascinating. It was produced using 3D Studio by Rob Elam. This fact alone should intrigue some of the forumites here. It is a one-on-one combat game. You pilot 90 foot robots in battling various opponents as part of a futuristic tournament. Elam used 3D Studio to model the robots and the arenas in which they battle. He lives in Panama City, Florida, and spent 18 months developing and fine-tuning the game. The real time response of the robots as you battle to see who will win makes it one of the most engaging games I've come across. Elam, a 24 year-old designer, and head of the Diversions Entertainment team, coded the game in Watcom C++ version using object-oriented programming. One of the things that struck me the most about the game is how you can customize the robots selecting color attributes for the different parts. The selection of a robot's colors is reflected in both the real time battle as well as the transition screens which feature animated engineers tending to the battle scarred 'bots. That all of this was done with 3D Studio is what motivated me to post it here. One Must Fall is a free download. No connect time charges. But it takes 3 1/2 hours to download at Compuserve B+ at 2400 baud. Can't prove it by me. I began the download just before hitting the sack. The shareware version contains four `bots, one arena, five pilots and one tournament mode. As players battle their way to the to top, they earn game money that can be put into upgrades and training to improve their `bot. It is a lot of fun. GO EPIC for more info or to download the game.
