I do terrain modeling and have found the only way is to begin inside of acad. you also need a terrain modeling program that will import the points and creat a "TIN" or triangulated irregular network, with acad 3d faces on them. once done, export it as a filmroll, and it will go right into 3ds. if you don't have all that software, i can do it for you. arrange your point file as comma delimited: point no.,x,y,z,description and save it as an asci file; send it to me.
