Good question. I've been wondering about that myself. It really depends on
what you're programming. If you're doing math that translates directly to
screen coords, like circles, etc., then the 1:1 aspect ration of Mode X 320×240
is cool. This is what first attracted me to it, and why I still use it for a
lot of stuff.
However, there's a lot to be said for standare Mode 13h. The linear
pixels allow you to use the 16-bit registers of a 16-bit card to
their best advantage. In Mode X, you can do the same, but each pixel
in the 16-bit register is 4 pixels away between the upper and lower
bytes. This makes it a bitch to use the 16-bit bus, slowing down
pixel writes by a factor of 2. You makes yer choices and you takes
yer lumps. Life is like that. TANSTASFL (There ain't no such thing as
