I have to add to sanford's reply: Even the humble Pixar Typestry (with the
RenderMan engine beneath the pretty /inter/face) allows you to perform real
displacements. You cannot create the materials in just Typestry (not in
versions prior 2.0 at least), but you will either have to buy the Looks or use
Glimpse to add displacement. It's quite amazing to see this low-end package (at
least when it comes to price) to perform this neat little trick.
