If I may add my 2 cents, I think that displacement mapping is essential. A
friend of mine has the Alias PowerAnimator system, which has displacement
mapping. This adds the needed realism that is missing in most PC animation
programs. It would make modeling some objects a breeze, a light bulbs screw
could just be a map, elephant skin would actually be indented when you fly in
close to it, veins under skin would actually pop up, etc.
I think A:M is a great program and this feature would help set it apart from
the rest! (steve…?)
