#Particle FX
Sanford,
You need a PowerMac 8100 <G>. My wife and I are always fighting over the
PowerMac 8100, so I purchased the Windows version of A:M to use when I can't
get on the PowerMac. The same file that renders in about 58 seconds per frame
on the PowerMac 8100 renders on a 486 DX2 66 w/32 Megs of RAM in 9 minutes 8
seconds per frame!!
I don't have access to a Pentium 90, which would be a fairer comparison, this
is just my experience with my first cross-platform network render.
Maybe this will help, maybe its redundant. If you are "flying through" the
city, try having two versions of your buildings, one with simple geometric
shapes with texture maps for when the camera is moving fast. If its not moving,
only your model is moving, possibly render a still frame of you scene without
you characters, then render just your characters on blue planes (to catch the
shadows) then use a program like Premiere that allows you the Chroma key the
two together.
I try to use this technique when ever possible, it can save alot of time!
Hope this helps,
Jim Jonah
p.s. Well, your strategy worked (a least I hope that was your strategy), Steve
spoke up and said particles are on the way!!!!
