Tony,
I will not comment on the other vendor's software. The best way for you to
decide on which is best, is to test drive the three. It seems you have done so
with Imagine 2.0, and TrueSpace. You need to take a look at Playmation or
Animation Master to get the whole picture.
I have been using Imagine or it's predecessors for about 8 years now. I am
currently using it to create the imagery and animations for Interactive CD
titles. The first of which will be on the shelves in a month or two. In this
one, I was only asked to create 8 Mythical characters, 4 of which can be seen
in the images MYTH1.JPG and MYTH2.JPG. For different character looks you may
want to look at COMUNE.JPG also.
Imagine 3.0 is a giant leap from 2.0. The interface is still similar, but much
more functionality has been put in. Many more features have been included as
well…such as BONES (Skeletal morphing), Deform tools, over 100 procedural
textures, etc. Take a look at FEATUR.TXT and IM31.TXT for further features.
The interface, believe it or not, is the best I have used. No other program
allows me to manipulate an object in such intimate ways. The lack of being
able to manipulate vertices, faces, subgroups, etc., in an accurate and easy
way, is what has kept me from moving to other software.
Imagine 3.0 offers a Spline editor, that allows you to import True Type fonts,
manupulate them, extrude and bevel them. A full functioning spline editor is
in the works for the future.
If you have any specific questions, please do ask.
