Addiction to FX
Grady,
I am as innovative as anyone you will ever meet. But I am pretty heavy
into Sci-Fi, which mens that I would be using a simple effect like a Lens Flare
fairly often. If this was something that AM did over time, then I wouldn't have
to add the effect frame by frame in Photoshop. Glow would be another thing that
wouldn't need a frame by frame touch up. Would you rather that Hash left out
motion blur? An innovative person could create the effect frame by frame, but
at what time premium? If you want to take the time to layer multiple ghosts,
you can certainly make an object explode, which is what I do, but is there
really any harm in asking that the effect be made simpler?
I would bet that there is not one single person using any application on
any platform that creates more detail than I do. If I have to use 8,000
controls points instead of 300 to make an object look the way I want it to,
then I use 8,000 control points. Rendering time can go hang as long my objects
look the way I want. There are things that I haven't shown anyone yet, like the
planet I created in AM that has clouds moving across the surface in a different
direction than the planetary rotation.
Technological advancement is innovation in itself. Sure, there a a few
different ways that man could have kept warm, but fire was much simpler. I
don't think that anyone is any less of an animator or artist just because they
want things easier. I for one would like to spend more time creating and less
time problem solving.
