Although I have been told that the AVI format supports transparency, I have never done it myself. However I have told several people this, and no one has come back to say it didn't work. Perhaps during the transition, the background values were changed so they are no longer pure black. Other than that, I don't know what could be wrong. Try it with another AVI file, possibly one that they provide, and see if it works. That will tell us whether the problem is the file or the technique being used.
