This is quite instructive, Kelly. I don't have specifically the A2090 manual or the A2090A floppy; my system came pre-used from Commodore and these bits may have been missing I do have a copy of the Hard Drive User's Guide as published for the A600 (1992 copyright), but that doesn't seem to have much relevant information. The Install disk DOES have a drawer called HDSetup/PrepScripts, with four entries: A3000Partitions, ReselectOn, ReselectOff, and StandardPartitions. This last sounds most likely: it has six lines of text (AddPart HD0:…, AddPart rest…, readfs :L/FastFileSystem…, reselect on, writerdb force, quit). On the second (FH0: partition): I have it, because I typed in the MountList myself. In playing with Developers' releases of 2.0+, I had worked through what was needed there for Kickfile operation .. so just transferred it into the new 3.1 environment. (Otherwise, 3.1 came with no Mountlists that I could see). My system has limped into 3.1 operation; but as I have mentioned before, the extra space it is demanding is crowding my 40MB disk unit badly – whether I repartition or not. I have liberally used ASSIGN extras in User-Startup, but may need to reshuffle them again, since so many applications want to shove in their own fonts, libs, or whatever. ASSIGN ADD is something of a benefit, but I'm not sure it does much to speed system operatiion. Thanks for your offer on the 209A floppy. I'm still taking stock of the best strategy to follow now, but I'll likely take you up on that soon. –Jim
