Okay, the safe discussion…
The LW CGI Voyager appears three times in the open…can you find it
amongst the model? The shots were animated by John Parenteau over
backgrounds created by Santa Barbara Studios. The CGI Voyager's
contruction was supervised by John Gross and the model was built by David
Jones, Bruce Hall, John Gross, and Tony Stutterheim. The animated warp
nacelle glows are a new LW feature :}
Everything involving the Badlands and the Galactic Wave is LW CGI except
the motion control ships and additional tinkering during compositing by
Dan Curry. These two sequences comprise 10 complete shots and were
created and animated by me, except the final "wave swallows Voyager" shot.
John Gross did the Voyager motion, while John Parenteau did final
lighting on the ship. I put it all together and created the effects for
the final shot.
All of the shots involving the Caretaker's technology, re: transporting
people to and from the array and the Ocampa force fields, were composited
by Dan Curry using elements I rendered in LW to match the Galactic Wave.
All of the Federation transporters are created by a combination of old
Star Trek elements and LW anamorphic (re: blue-streaked) flares created by
John Gross.
The desert planet the Ocampa live on, as viewed from space in a number of
fly-bys, was created in LW by David Jones. Forge was used to create some
of the texture layers. Yes, full 3D planets at last.
The grand finale ending Voyager goes to warp shot was completely CGI,
stars, nebula, Voyager…everything. In general, whenever the Voyager
stretches and goes to warp it is LW CGI. John Parenteau lit and
animated the shot.
Whew…what else…I am sure there is more…hmmmm…
Lot of Amblin staff was involved everywhere. The 13 DEC alphas we
rendered the pilot footage on was ably manned by Phil Hice and John Lima
during many long and stressful nights.
Many different versions of the caretaker/goo creature were created by
myself, John Gross, and a company that has done some DS9 effects caleed
Vision Arts. Eventually, Rick Berman picked a Vision Arts version of the
creature. Ours, and elements of ours, are already starting to pop up in
future episodes.
John, did I miss anything?
