Oh, I agree. Bring the Cardies in there as well (a two front confrontation) and great tension will be created. The simple thing of having Bajor become an armed camp as well. They are right there and would be literally on the front lines. The transformation of the once peaceful Bajorian people into a warrior race (or at least more militaristic) would have some interesting story lines. Conflict between the Bajorian religion as well could prove to be interesting. Subtlty is the word here. There is more than one way to state a position about problems we have today.
