#Slow Amiga 3000
Stephen:
If I read your message right, your A3000 has only 1 meg of CHIP RAM,
correct? No chips near the ZIP sockets?
In that case, the slowdown is caused by the fact that you have no FAST
RAM. CPU access to CHIP RAM is shared, giving the machine an effective
speed of about 7 Mhz or so. Adding the FAST RAM will boost your speed
siginificantly.
Example: Adding FAST RAM to an A1200 results in DOUBLE the speed in
benchmark tests!
BTW, Yes you have SuperKickstart. SuperKickstart is read off of a file on
your hard disk, and loaded into protected RAM (NO ROM CHIPS). It robs you
of 512K memory.
