Here's a quote from the 3D Studio Advanced User Guide
"Important: It is not necessary to install a hardware lock in a system used
exclusively for command line, batch, or network slave rendering. Your 3D
Studio licensing agreement lets you install 3D Studio on any number of
systems for these purposes."
While I miss some of the intuitiveness of Lightwave and the Raytrace feature,
I really LOVE the manual and tutorial. It allows even a novice to achieve a
level of competence with 3DS and even 3D modeling in general. Also, the
level of control and power of the modelers combined with the IPAS's
definitely make it a beast worth considering.
I am hoping to see Lightwave follow further into 3DS's realm. I am looking
forward to the PC version, the ability to use modules, and the addition of
IK. While I still use Lightwave, I find myself drawn more and more towards
3DS. However, I firmly believe in using each package where it's strengths
apply.
