Hi Jerry!
Ok. You want enthusiastic dealer reports, you got them! We got our dealer
demo/beta unit on thursday night.
It's a clean looking single board with chips on both sides and little tiny
heat sinks on some of the chips. Three ID50M connectors for SCSI devices,
two 9 pin ID connectors for RS422/Time Code, and one 10 pin header that
connects to the Toaster itself.
Our demo unit came with two 2GB hard drives (I think they are the IBM but
I haven't looked in the chasis) in a nice 2 bay chasis.
The manual is a good couple of hundred pages, but still not complete. One
floppy disk installed the drivers that bring up Fly0: and Fly1: and the
switcher.main and XXX.bin files (the files that are likely to be upgraded
in the future through beta/gamma releases).
Fly0: has tons of cool new effects, and the CG/Paint/Switcher/Flyer
software. Lightwave was not shipped with the demo system. The old
Toaster software runs just dandy with the new Flyer libraries/support
installed, BTW.
Fly1: has the Newtek clips that everybody has seen at demos, Tim, Brad,
and the Drag Racing.
We have digitized all sorts of stuff from test patterns being generated by
a \\\FAST Video Machine (No stinking tape in the middle) to BetaCam stuff
to LaserDisk Stuff, to Betamax and VHS. Looks GORGEOUS!!!!!
According to NewTek, we are digitizing at Lossless D2 resolution, however
with a Alpha/Beta version of their algorithm. (There are not any
requesters alowing the user to specify the resolution of digitized clips
in the software we have).
CG Overlays and Crawls and Scrolls do not work in the software we have.
Toaster Paint works except for the Process Clip functions. Lightwave, as
I said before, was not shipped with our software.
The Switcher Interface is solid and it is easy to create Projects, with
Clips, Effects, Framestores, etc.
We are getting a little over ten minutes of audio and video on each two
gigabyte hard drive.
Did I say it looks gorgeous?! 😉
