The KittyHawk, which is based on a dual 90-MHz Pentium system, is designed to run Lightwave Pro for PCs when it is available. With two processors, multiple tasks can be executed without significant slowdowns. For instance, you can be rendering in Lightwave while modeling in the Modeler. Some other exciting applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, are now available to take full advantage of Windows NT and the multiprocessing capability of the KittyHawk. The KittyHawk will also run Windows applications at full Windows performance. The Barnstormer, based on a 275 MHz Alpha processor, provides about twice the speed of the KittyHawk, and currently runs Screamernet at about the speed of 11 Amiga 4000's! While it will run most Windows applications, they run through an Intel 286 emulator and perform only at the speed of a fast 486 or slow Pentium. Once Lightwave Pro and other Windows NT applications are available for the Alpha version of NT, you will be able to significantly outperform SGI-based systems without the headaches and cost of a proprietary UNIX system. The really cool part is that the Kittyhawk is fully upgradeable to the Barnstormer. Hence, you can purchase the Kittyhawk for immediate Lightwave use, and upgrade to the Barnstormer once the appropriate software is available. If your rendering needs require, use the Barnstormer to provide the optimum level of rendering performance from your Amiga or KittyHawk, while allowing operation as a full Windows NT workstation once the needed software is available.
