Hi, Jon– Good point; perhaps the USGS would continue as a private enterprise if that proposal is adopted, but being private, the USGS would likely discontinue ask-a-geologist (or charge for it), unless some volunteer financing scheme (comparable to PBS financing, perhaps) could be put together. Hmm, the USGS offers a lot of circulars, maps, CDs, and whatnot at low prices since it is public domain information; geo-fans might want to get aggressive about obtaining such things before the USGS can be discontinued or privatized. –Doug
