Don, I am using argoterm with its talking feature since I do only have the one serial port and both the modem and the symnthesizer want it. The hardware spooler sounds like a good idea and I have a couple of questions: how much do they go for and how big is the buffer? I will also investigate your idea about downloading the message base since you are correct in that this is very slow. Thanks for all your help. Chip
