Sidecar
On Sidecar — I guess we must have gotten it up here in the Great White
North before you guys did on the warm side of the border. We've had our "For
sale" ones now for about 2 weeks. The bad part first: $1499 Canadian retail.
The thing works just as promised, though. 256K standard, sockets on the
motherboard for another 256K. Can be expanded to 640K on a card, say a
Multifunction card. Three IBM slots, can use any IBM card. A hardcard can be
plugged into any of the slots (or, one would assume, an external hard drive
could be used). There is, on the MS-DOS disk, an FDISK program, standard
MS-DOS, and an "ADISK" program that sets up the AmigaDos partition on the Hard
drive, the same way FDISK does for MS-DOS. We've had a whole pile of IBM
programs running on it, including Flight Sim, Lotus, Bedford accounting, and
more. The only thing that bothers me about it is the price. A PC-10 II can be
had for about the same money, and there's substantially more hardware there.
