I would like to nominate Shanghai as most effective use of graphics. If
you compare the Amiga version of this program to the other version
Activision has released, you'll find that the Amiga graphics have been used
to create a photorealist display unequaled (and untouched) by any of the
other versions. Besides that, it's an incredibly addictive game. I love
it.
For best music yet executed on an Amiga, I like the music on The Pawn, an
very nice piece of composition accentuated by superb sound samples.
For most overlooked program, I lean toward Logistix, a program that might
have discouraged some users because of a problematic 1.0 release. The 1.1
version works FAST with KS/WB 1.2. It does what it claims to do (an
integrated spreadsheet, database, time management and graphing program) and
does it well. It's keyboard control and relative design austerity may not
be as sexy as MaxiPlan but I find Logistix much more useful and,
surprisingly, easier to use.
And for best drawing program of all time, I think there is no contest with
Dan Silva's extraordinary DeluxePaint 2.0. This may well be the first
computer drawing program with enough flexibility to interest artists who
have avoided getting involved with the computer as an artistic tool.
Finally, let's give a BIG award to all the programmers, publishers and
enthusiasts who have held the Amiga torch high in 1986, even when Commodore
was still sitting around trying to light a match under water. I think
we're doing a GREAT job standing behind this most extraordinary of micros.
