From OnLine Today…. (Nov. 28) Rumors of a new, high-end Commodore computer are peaking as Commodore readies January announcements for add-on equipment. Commodore representatives have also hinted at a new, IBM-compatible line that will be announced soon after the first of the year. Large production quantities of the compatible line are not expected until after the first quarter of 1988. Among the equipment known to be ready for release in January are an AT-compatible Bridgeboard, a 68020/68881 coprocessor and the A2080 highresolution monitor. The long- persistence monitor that Amiga users have been hoping for will not be released before the fourth quarter of 1988. The A3000 is rumored to be in the works but the planned 68030 CPU is not yet available at a reasonable cost. The system will feature nine Mbytes of RAM; a built-in 3 1/2-inch disk drive and 50MB hard disk; new animation and graphics chips; a detachable 92-key keyboard similar to the A2000s and an optomechanical mouse. A yet-to- be-designed multisynch monitor will provide matched output for the new graphics chip.
