No, you can't. Run your gains up all the way, _all_ of them, and tape a minute
or two of silence, then play it back and listen. That will tell you what you
want to know.
I see your three miles and raise you two blocks… from a major AM/FM combo. I
used to pick up WRXL FM on my FM radio, my AM radio, my turntable, my cassette
deck… 8). Moving the system to another wall and playing with cable
arrangement finally cured my problem.
It's entirely possible the RF is coming in at the headphone amp; if that's the
case, it won't do anything to your tapes and will just be an irritation. If
it's getting in through the mixer inputs or elsewhere, there could be problems.
Try the test I mentioned above and let me know what you find out; maybe we can
get you squared away.
