Anne– I don't know why it happens. My guess is that since the article I vaguely recall said that even programs that don't use Preferences can be affected by it, it may not be that WP is specifically tied to the device driver but that it is happening at some "lower" level. BTW–customer support went so far as to hook up a Star PowerType that someone there happened to have to try to reproduce my problem. They could not, of course, and it could be we would never have solved it because the Preferences setting is not an intuitive place to look. Same thing happened recently with Superbase Personal. I printed some mailing labels for the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club (I'm a member) three across, and the zip of some of the members didn't print. Since SB has a miserable user-interface for setting up mailing labels, I might have spend hours fiddling with that if the director of the club hadn't said in pointing out the problem. "You must have your right margin set too short or something." The Okidata ML 92 has no command for right margin setting, but sure enough I had my Preferences at 75. I changed it to 80 and everything worked fine. Naturally, if you set a margin in the software you do not expect Preferences to over-ride it, but it does happen and there is nothing in the docs to say set it in Preferences. Oh well. It works fine once you know. // Jim
