If at all possible, you should consider a monitor which supports ANALOG RGB.
You'll need to get a special cable for your monitor too. I use a Sony KV1311CR
cable-ready television/computer monitor. Unfortunately, my local Sony dealer
tells me that Sony decided to discontinue their combination television-computer
monitors (insufficient demand). I used to use a digital RGB cable, but that
supports only 16 colors (and they're always the same 16 colors) — so almost
everything looks pretty bad that way, unless the software you're running
happens to want those 16 colors. I added a composite cable, which let me
switch over to that mode, but that fuzzed up my picture -although it DID let
me use DeluxePaint,etc. and see the appropriate colors. In the PAWN game,
digital RGB makes the colors for the various scenes come out real screwy, but
the composite video makes all the colors come out as various shades of gray.
Just recently, I finally got an analog RGB cable. The bottom line: I don't
even know where those other cables are anymore. Everything looks BEAUTIFUL.
Another monitor that supports analog RGB is the NEC Multisync — although I've
never had one hooked up to my Amiga. That's probably the most popular EGA
monitor around, and is therefore easily obtainable.
