Larry,
The three wires are all that are needed, assuming that you have an RS232
adapter for the 64. (I made that assumption because you were talking about a
cable with more wires).
Connect the three wires as follows:
Amiga pin 7 to 64 pin 7
Amiga pin 2 to 64 pin 3
Amiga pin 3 to 64 pin 2
Do not try this unless you have an RS232 adapte on the 64.
