Bill, I/m afraid I have to take serious exception to your remarks. South Africa is NOT a place where you can speak your mind and not worry about the police carting you off for indefinite detention without legal recourse. That situation is EXACTLY what happens to people who speak their minds if they oppose the racialist system. I have met numerous persons from South Africa whose opinion I respect who go to jail for being trade unionists or writing about police actions, etc. The argument that South Africa may be bad but is so much better than any of her neighbors is Nonsense from Senator Helms and the Armegeddon crowd. None of her neighbors has a democracy of 20% of the population. Zimbabwe (one of her neighbors) has a multi-racial democracy and is rapidly approaching the point of having an average standard of living greater than South Africa's. I hope that you don't take offense at these remarks but I could not let the issue pass without comment. In Solidarity, David Lyall
