The other day I was wondering why Word Perfect for the Amiga should not use the "clean" box graphics utilized in the IBM version, instead of using those damn asterisks. Since I had too much free time at that time, as an "intellectual exercise" I decided to try to do it. Using the font editor, I modified the Amiga font containing all those strange foreign letters which I have little use for, into standard IBM (ugh!) graphic characters. I then used PrintDef to change the font list so that my printer would recognize those characters and print them. I then changed Word Perfect's key map to access these characters using control characters. The only other thing I had to do was correct the way WP's print driver accessed my printers alternate character set. I can now type in boxes of all shapes and sizes and print them out! Only goes to show how flexible and powerful Word Perfect can be… and that a mind is a terrible thing to waste! -RSL-
