Alex, With multi-tasking you can have an environment similar to what you
describe just by using multiple CLI's. I normally will have MicroGNUEmacs
running with one or more source or doc files loaded, another CLI for compiling
and linking, another CLI with Metascope running, and a few more laying around
for misc things. I also use ASDG's RRD (VD0:) for all my frequently used
commands, libraries, includes, etc. And use Conman, which gives you a command
history with editing features in each CLI I use. This type of environment
works very well for me, and would be close in function to the integrated
environment you described.
