Video titling
A few unsolicited thoughts from someone who uses the Amiga for titling
on videos, satellite feeds, etc.
Having run through a ton of different products, I now use Aegis
Videotitler with JDK Video Fonts for what I think is professional quality
titling. I use TV*Show to manipulate 'supers', graphics over-the-shoulder
boxes, etc. While it has a tendency to crash every now and then, it is far
and away the easiest program to use.
A lot of folks seem to like THE DIRECTOR to manipulate images, but I
don't want to spent two thousand hours learning how to write scripts that
will generate fifty dollars in product performance, so I don't use it.
There are several other products in the same category. I've thrown away
Silver, Videoscape 3D and THE Director after having spend a few dizen hours
trying to figure out how they work. I factor in learning time as well as
performance time/quality and while some people love them, they're just too
inefficient for me. I use VideoEffects 3D for animation and, while it's
limited, it does the job.
Admittedly, my uses are above 'Home Video' and I use the Amiga as a
tool, not a hobby, but you might want to ask some other folks who use the
products. Even the programs I don't like have big fans, so it's best to
get some different opinions. I just didn't want you to get back into
titling thinking you were going to do "Sunday Night Movie" level work right
off the bat.
