Ray, Thanks for you summary. I do anticipate a problem if I try to run the system without a hard disk, but I am going to also have a problem spending that much on a computer that I will use just for my own entertainment. I already have a 25MHz 386 at home (I work out of an office in my house), so the Amiga will not be a work machine. Of course, hi res graphics and sound eat up more disk space than anything else I can think of, so no hard disk would be a real problem for storage as well as speed. Oh, well. Where is the best place to read about what the Amiga can do? I seem to remember hearing something about speech synthesis? What is a "flicker-fixer"? (If flicker is so bad it needs a special device to fix it, it would be a disincentive to buy the machine). What does it take to get stuff from video tape onto the Amiga? What about getting it from the Amiga to videotape? Is that a GENLOCK? What do they cost (hobbiest level, not professional)? Does the Amiga take 256K SIMMS (9 bit, 100ns, IBM style)? Does the Amiga 2000 use IBM compatible slots (silly question, but I thought I would ask). What is needed to add a HD to a 2000 later? With upgrading other machines, I sometimes end up with spare parts (SCSI controllers, hard disks, etc); if I could use any of them with the Amiga, it would be a help. Is there a place on this forum where people advertise used machines? Maybe I could get a used 2000 cheaper. – Gardner
