Hello. I just received Superbase Personal (as a gift), and I want to set up a simple "inventory" style database for a collection of antiques. I have several questions at this point, and I'd be most appreciative if anyone can help me. If the answer to any of the following involves upgrading to a higher version of Superbase, then please be specific as to the version required and the method used to solve the problem. Thanks very much! 1. Several fields in each record represent categories, and therefore should be restricted to one of "n" preselected choices (e.g. china, glassware, silver or furniture). I can see that it is possible to use a validation formula to restrict the possible entries, but I'd like some way to prompt the database user with a list of the possible choices as he/she makes the entries. Is this possible? 2. According to the manual, text fields are limited to a maximum of 255 characters, and apparently there is no simple way to have multiple-line fields. I need to include descriptive language in certain fields, so I'd like to figure out a way to handle more text. It seems that the external file feature only works for IFF pictures, despite the statement in the manual that says they can also be text files. I also need a way to control the printed format of the text blocks. Any suggestions? 3. Is it possible to have records whose structure changes depending on the value of one or more controlling fields? For example, different information is needed to describe a teacup as compared to a cabinet. I can see how to accomplish this (sort of) by using multiple related files, but I'd rather not have to deal with that unless the appropriate file is accessed automatically based on the value of the controlling field(s).
