Why is it natural that they would not support each other's format? Wouldn't it be better to support both format, but try to "tweak" the competition's through software so you end up enhancing the user's output? One of the strengths of the Amiga is the IFF formats, so that everyone is working from the same sheet of music. We all know there are weaknesses in the current IFF standards, and they can be improved. But is it worth it in the long run to have every software/hardware house in the industry coming out with its own proprietary format used by no one else in the world? That seems kind of silly to me. After all, if we wanted a whold bunch of mutually exclusive formats, we could go to clones and play with CGA, EGA, VGA, and whatever other kind of GA they come up with next.
