Larry, Ah, more and more enlightening ! OK, on the subject of bad block mapping. I think I recall that SCSI devices can do this dynamically, and your information and the fact that there was not a list of bad blocks included with the drive reinforces this impression. True ??? If so, then question #2… From both PageStream and the SID directory utility, I was getting a "Disk has Read/Write Error" requestor when reading a directory on the new drive. After two or three attempts to re-read the directory, the error went away. Was this said dynamic mapping-out ??? If not, any ideas ??? Also, I use B.A.D. to un-fragment my hard disk(s). I understand from previous discussions here that it will crash and trash the partition if it encounters a bad block. Other than my well-practiced and often-butt-saving paranoia (backing all drives before doing ANYTHING major), is there any safe-guard? I guess I could fill up the disk with a bunch of "stuff" then delete it off thus (presumably) encountering any bad blocks that are there, but this seems VERY tedioius. Anyway, thanks for this impromptu course on SCSI drives. This is my first experience with one, and I welcome anything contributing to my education. Take care… Kevin
