Well, let me set a few facts straight here. SAS Institute is the parent
company for Lattice (and has been for many years). All of the Amiga
development has always been done by myself and more recently my staff for
all releases since 3.10. Lattice simply put their name on the product
after adding a few value added features (like technical support and much of
the documentation) and shipped the product. In August of this year it was
decided that the customers were better served by putting all development,
sales, and technical support under one roof. I was able to put a staff of
4 people on the Amiga product along with 2 technical support people.
Directly on the heels of the transfer, we shipped the 5.10 release of what
is now called the SAS/C Development System for AmigaDOS. It includes
complete support for 2.0 as well as a fully functional workbench
environment – as well as the normal release of improvements to the
technology and performance. These features were times to be released at
the same time at the 3000 hit the streets with 2.0.
As for being competitive, we really don't see that. Our product directions
come from our users and an internal drive from developers at SAS Institute
who use the product on the Apollo day in and day out to compile about 3.5
Millions lines of C source code every day. These developers (about 500)
know that part of my department's responsibility is to serve their needs
and don't ever let us rest for a moment. If you follow our conference on
'that other' online service, you will find that our directions are derived
from user input and desires to push the state in the art for technology.
In the past year we have also had a more important driving force –
Commodore. As you should be aware, many pieces of the 2.0 operating system
were built with our compiler. We are constantly responding to requests from
Commodore to improve code quality in order to help preserve that valuable
rom space. Feel free to comment, we really are proud of this product and
want it to grow.
