Bill, I have noticed color problems even with the VIP, and I can only say that it takes careful color choices to get good results with NTSC due to it's limitations. Also, lots of dithering and anti-aliasing seems to help on NTSC output as opposed to large areas of a single color. The type of RCA cable you use can be important.. Make sure you specifically have a video cable. I do not notice any difference when the RGB pass-thru is disconnected, nor do I remember any mention of it in the VIP literature. Lastly, when I playback my animations from VHS, I find the picture on a TV/monitor to be much superior to what I get from my 1084 composite ('color-noise' is greatly exaggerated); I only use the 1084 for a vague reference while recording, not for final scrutiny.
