Scanner

I use the Canon IX-12 scanner. It's ok for publishing. The only software
and interface available for it are Gold Disk's ProScan interface and
software, which does NOT support grey scale… just halftone type
dithering. I paid $199 for the scanner (from IME in Boston) and $149 for
the ProScan stuff from Gold Disk.
The Gold Disk software doesn't work very well under 2.04, and Gold Disk has
no intention of further developing its offering (read that: ORPHANED).
While the system has served me well for about 2 years now, I wouldn't make
the same purchase decision again. Today I'd definately opt for a full page
color scanner supported by ASDG (hint, hint). The only drawback (IMHO) to
the ASDG software is that while it will scan in 8 bit grey scale, it won't
scan in 1 bit B&W for line art… however this is minor, since you can
tweek all you want in AdPro.
By the way, JR also used to have the IX-12/ProScan setup prior to getting
his Epson/ASDG package. I'm sure he can give you a better run down on it
than I can.
